The southern town of Saisons lies at the crossroads between North and South, progressive and genteel antebellum life. Between East and West, between history and heritage, and new frontiers. Downton Abbey meets Gone With the Wind. It’s 1912, in a world where slavery is dying and women’s rights are rising, and four young women who once shared a bond-and experienced a tragedy-question their own truths. Scarlett was the shrinking violet in the group. Faithful to her friends, and hiding secrets of her own. When Mercedes steps in to rescue her, she unknowlingly plucks the thread that unravels Scarlett’s whole world. But as Scarlett strives to hold fast to what is familiar the fabric of her life continues to come undone and secrets that are best kept hidden are exposed.

Book Title: The Tilting Leaves of Autumn Book Author: Robin E. Mason What do you like about this book:
3.5 stars
"You have many questions and many dark secrets. But you have much fear also. The fear, it rules over you and steals from you any hope for the future."
Scarlett Fontaine Sheehan could have been elated that she has escaped the horrors of her childhood; she is married to the love of her life whose rising career is on the brink of releasing them both from the cruel bondage of their pasts. Instead she remains chained to the terror, the dreams, the shadows; expecting any minute that her father will descend upon them; dragging her back to him and his vile treatment of her, to his unmentionable use of her body as his personal bargaining chip.
Scarlett's three childhood friends and loving husband determine to pull Scarlett back from the brink of an inky abyss into reality; persuading her to reconcile the bright threads of her future with the dark seams of her past; reminding her that she is loved, that she can follow her dreams; which up until this point have been hidden away in a sketchbook. As the twirling days of autumn leaves wane into the cold, dark winter nights, will Scarlett allow herself to hear the clear voice of truth, as unpleasant memories continue to suffocate all sensibility and distinguishing the truth from fiction appears to be nearly impossible.
Once again this author has impressed; using her unique voice with its concentric circles of plot twists, to broaden the scope of what is in her own words, "one long story, told by four different main characters".
I received a digital copy of this book from the author, but purchased a print copy for the purpose of easier review. The opinions stated are entirely my own
