Summary
Odette Menkels sleeps by day and hunts by night; determined to use her extraordinary skills to feed the poor and orphaned children of Thornbeck. Following a chance meeting with the margrave\'s new young forester, Jorgen Hartman, Odette becomes grossly conflicted about continuing to poach the king\'s deer population, especially after learning that Jorgen has found evidence of a poacher and has sworn to locate and bring to justice those who are responsible. But Odette\'s uncle, her guardian since the childhood death of her parents, is curiously dependent on Odette\'s after hours occupation, and he insists that she marry the rich son of the mayor, Mathis, in order to ensure that the impoverished children, whom Odette adores, will continue to have food, long after Odette\'s poaching days are over. There is only one problem, Odette\'s heart has already attached itself to another. It is obvious early on in this story that Odette\'s secrets and Jorgen\'s honesty will reach a climax; thus transforming a simply good story into a page turner.
