The journey proves treacherous, and after being rescued by a knight—Sir Gerek—Rapunzel in turn rescues him farther down the road. As a result, Sir Gerek agrees to repay his debt to Rapunzel by teaching her to read. Could there be more to this knight than his arrogance and desire to marry for riches and position?

Summary
Rapunzel Scheinberg has been traveling with her mother from place to place, town to town, home to home, all her life. While traversing the countryside, down a deserted road, Rapunzel\'s life changes forever, for in the blink of an eye her life is endangered and saved, as the result of a chance encounter with a brave warrior by the name of Sir Gerek of Hagenheim. Oddly enough, Rapunzel finds opportunity to return the favor rather quickly when she in turn saves Sir Garek\'s life with her astounding ability to throw a dagger. While recuperating from his injuries, Sir Gerek is persuaded by a local monk to teach Rapunzel to read, one of her life long dreams. The young knight is less than enthusiastic about spending long hours of time with the lovely maiden, for she is only a peasant girl and he is determined to marry a noble woman in order to gain title and riches. But there is something special about Rapunzel, in spite of her very odd mother and her story of being orphaned at the age of three. In fact, Gerek feels the need to protect Rapunzel at all costs, a decision that will have the potential of changing his heart and his life forever. There is indeed, more to Rapunzel than meets the eye, and the mysteries surrounding her past may tragically result in her future demise. A lovely retelling of a classic fairy tale with a delightful visit back to the kingdom of Hagenheim.
