Is it the end of the line for Harry Bosch?
When evidence links a brutal murder in 1989 to a convicted rapist named Clayton Pell, the case should be watertight. Pell’s DNA was found on the victim – but he was only eight years old at the time.
This is not the only mystery Harry Bosch has to solve. A man jumped – or was pushed – from a window. The victim’s father is Councilman Irving, who’s been intent on destroying Harry’s career for years. Now Irving wants Harry to head up the investigation.
Harry uncovers traces of two of the city’s deepest secrets: a killer operating for as many as three decades without being detected, and a conspiracy that goes back into the dark history of the police department . . .

Book Title: The Drop
Book Author: Michael Connelly
What do you like about this book:
Summery::
Michael Connelly has received the most critical praise for this novel since The Lincoln Lawyer. Which is understandable. Connelly deals wisely with some difficult subjects and asks some interesting questions. Yet, that does not make things all well and good. The Drop is a truly disturbing read. And its taunting realism does not help matters much. It does ask some compelling questions about human nature, but the unfortunate thing is that the author never answers these questions. Not only this, but I found it generally uninteresting and sort of…slow. That, tagged along with its unsettling content, certainly makes The Drop—whether interesting or not—not worth the read.
Sexual Content::
When a raped woman is found, the perpetrator's DNA was found, and questions are asked whether it was discovered in semen; the answer is no, the man must have worn a condom or not have ejaculated. More on this rape case entails a visit to a therapeutic probation center, an area where kids are not allowed due to the amount of pedophiles there. Some unsettling dialogue revolves around the inmates there. Clayton Pell is said to be a homosexual and his backstory is explored in depth....
As a young boy, Pell's drug-addict mother would trade sex for drugs, often performing the acts in front of her son. She'd live with multiple men, one who was said to have force Pell to perform oral sex on him (this is mentioned a few more times, one in a vulgar way; and a shoebox full of pictures are said to depict men and women performing the same act on the perpetrator). This young boy went on to be a gay pimp, and then was arrested for public indecency. This led to him abducting several boys below the age of twelve. The methods he used to lure in these boys are described briefly. All of these things are discussed as past events, but are all equally jarring.
There is talk of another sex offender nicknamed Chill, who would keep a shoebox of pornographic pictures, taken in his van when he'd abuse them. Most of them were women, some of them young boys. One picture is described briefly but explicitly and in vulgar terms. Another man is said to have drugged and raped a girl.
On the less dark side of things, Harry takes a quick interest in Hannah and they continue to see one another. Of course, this leads to a sexual relationship. We read about them kissing and caressing (fully clothed), where the author cuts to the next chapter where we hear about their good times in the bedroom (briefly and mildly).
A man is thought to be having an affair. A woman's car is vandalized by graffiti stating an affection of child rapists. Whether or not it was written out of mockery is never explored. References to gangbangers. Of course, there are some unsavory comments made.
Violent Content::
A man falls from a window and is described in gruesome detail (all his bones are broken, his body bleeding and even one of his eyes is hanging out). A man is said to have been attacked by a group of men in prison (implied to have been sexually assaulted) and was castrated in the process. This same man was also said to have been beaten and locked in closets for long periods of time as a child.
Some of the pictures of the crime scenes are unsettling, though not extremely graphic. A woman is found cut, naked, and dead in a river after being raped and strangled, somebody else'sblood smeared over her body. She was said to have been kidnaped on her way home.
Language::
About three dozen uses of the f-word (once in a sexual context and a couple others paired with "mother"), and about half that of the s-word. "H--l", "d--n," "p--s," "b--tard," and "a--" are used a few times each. A use of "d--k." Jesus's name is abused about half a dozen times and God's name is used along side "d--n".
Drug/Alcohol Content::
Clayton's mother was addicted to heroin and would drag her son to the drug dealers to get herself more. A man is said to be addicted to cigarettes. People drink and smoke.
Cleanliness:: 1/5
