To win a man’s heart, a woman must have the mind of a diplomat, a general, and Cleopatra, all in one. Desperation has led Anne-Sophia Duncombe to a life of exile. Still, she is always just one mistake away from capture and a marriage she would rather die than endure. As a last resort to remain hidden from her former life, Sophia attempts a radical scheme; a life of humility and disguise. Rumor has it Wilhelm Montegue, the Earl of Devon, is insane. A tormented war hero haunted by scandal, he is only tolerated because of his brilliant mind and swarthy good looks. His unmentionable “condition” which keeps him confined to his country home is also the source of his talent for composing music. When a new housemaid is hired at Rougemont, Lord Devon is perplexed to find himself fascinated by her. He knows the exquisite beauty is keeping secrets but her siren’s voice draws him ever closer, and he can’t resist the intoxicating scent of danger surrounding her.

Summary
Overall A Song for Sophia is a touching romance between two characters each learning to live with their disturbing pasts. Sophia has ran away from an abusive father who is trying to marry her off to an even more abusive husband. She finds herself a housemaid in Lord Devon’s home. Wilhelman, Lord Devon, is a war hero and rumored to be insane among other things. Sophia is a strong character without being stupid. The savant autism made Wilhelm an even more intriguing hero. I truly enjoyed
how he went about wooing her. Each of the characters are unique in their own way. This is not your cookie cutter historical romance. A Song for Sophia is a
book I could read again. I highly recommend A Song for Sophia if you are looking for fresh and unique characters and witty dialogue.
Violence The violence was hard to rate. Most of it was in the past tense. Sophia's father was abusive. She had two men attack her. The most disturbing scene for me was when they are trying to stop the bleeding in Wil's leg.
Language
Sexual There were approx three physical scenes that were well written with no crude language.
Drug & Alcohol There is some drinking.
