Summary
Overall This inspirational novel explores going home and second chances. The author created such a sweet picture of two children bonding and developing a friendship. Twenty five years later those children have lost their innocence and have had their faith tested. Nate is a combat reporter on a much needed leave and goes back to the one place he called home as a child. Lindsey is the friend that gave him hope in his troubled home life. Lindsey’s story, revealed in pieces, was heartbreaking and I didn’t see it coming. Jarrod was one of my favorite characters and I was very happy to read in the author’s notes that his mom, Cindy will get her own story. The question that really had me thinking“ if you knew he was going to die, would you still marry him for the happiness you experienced together”. It makes you realize that although the loss is painful you don’t regret the time you had with them.
Violence The violence was in the past and is more descriptions of what happened to Lindsey's husband and the things that Nate saw while in Afghanistan.
