Acting Sheriff Ben Logan hasn’t heard from Leigh Somerall in a very long time, but it doesn’t mean he can get her–or their whirlwind romance of ten years ago–out of his head. When she calls out of the blue, it is with a strange request to protect her brother, Tony. When Tony dies just days later, Ben is charged with a different task–protecting Leigh and her nine-year-old son, TJ, from the killers. But how can Ben keep an eye on Leigh if she’s doing everything in her power to avoid him? And could the secret that Leigh is keeping change Ben’s life forever?
Suspense, intrigue, and a touch of romance make A Promise to Protect perfect for readers who like their stories with a hearty dose of mystery.

Summary
An amazing blend of intrigue and romance; I was immediately captivated by the storyline after reading just a few sentences! When Sheriff Ben Logan holds a dying man in his arms, his whispered clues and final request leave the sheriff both devastated and determined. Devastated to find Tony Jackson brutally murdered on the eve of sharing vital information and determined to protect Tony's sister by finding his killer. A sister that Ben deeply loved as a much younger man and still wonders about on occasion; they abruptly separated during their college years, but interestingly enough she is back in town finishing an internship with a local hospital; widowed and raising a young son on her own. Leigh Somerall cannot believe that her beloved brother is dead. In spite of the fact that Tony was a \"high roller\", he seemed to have changed during recent months and had invited Leigh and TJ, her son, to live with him during her internship. Is her life really in danger? Can she bring herself to trust Ben Logan; especially when she has hidden a secret from him for over ten years? \"A Promise to Protect\" is filled with blind curves and surprising outcomes, as Ben and Leigh wade through deep personal and professional quick sand; any false moves threatening to over take them. It is a fantastic novel and hopefully Patricia Bradley has many more stories just like this one to share with her reading audience!
