Summary
Love our Vets: Restoring Hope for Families of Veterans with PTSD by Welby O'Brien. This is a book designed for the families and loved ones of people with PTSD more so than the person with PTSD. It's practical advice from others who are living through it. In part one; she discusses 64 different questions family members may have. In part two, she talks about how you need to take care of yourself. There are 21 chapters on taking care of yourself and she has it in a survey form so you can evaluate yourself and where you need to replenish yourself. In part three, she has a large section on stories from other people sharing advice or just thoughts. They range from one-liners to longer stories. I think the book and stories within help you realize you're not alone. And for those of us who've never experienced this first hand, it really humbles you to know what both the soldier and the family go through and not just while they are in battle but even when they get home. I highly recommend this book. I think it's like sitting across the table from someone who's been where you are and talking to you about yes this is hard but it's going to be OK. Even the book cover catches your attention and draws you in emotionally. She doesn't give you false hope or false platitudes. In the back of the book she has 31 daily prayers that are short easy and practical. She has information about the website to get more information. Loveourvets.org
