When Aurelie Harcourt’s father dies in debtor’s prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company.
When Aurelie decides to complete her father’s unfinished serial novel, writing the family into the story as unflattering characters, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother’s disappearance–and perhaps even her father’s death.
Author Joanna Davidson Politano’s stunning debut set in Victorian England will delight readers with its highly original plot, lush setting, vibrant characters, and reluctant romance.

Summary
Lady Jayne Disappears by Joanna Davidson Politano.
Aurelie has lived in debtor’s prison with her father almost her entire life. As the story opens she is going to live with her wealthy aunt after her father’s passing. The aunt is a grouchy old woman. Don’t expect a motherly relationship here. And we all have to wonder why the wealthy sister did not help her brother get out of debtor’s prison.
Silas is a house guest and is intrigued with Aurelie. She speaks her mind to him and is well read. She challenges his thinking. Call me a hopeless romantic but I enjoyed the relationship between Aurelie and Silas. He truly enjoyed and anticipated his next conversation with her. He would bring her food! I love a man who will do that 🙂
Aurelie’s father is secretly a successful author. She decides to continue his writing. The author created amusing scenes as Aurelie would write scenes from her life into the novel and taking out her frustration with her relatives out in the novels. She is also researching what happened to her mother. The author was able to surprise me with the ending and I enjoy that very much.
