Summary
Reviewer Name Rebecca Maney Frenchman Louis Lestarjette has arrived in 1 772 Charles Town, South Carolina with no significant aspirations other than to investigate this new land of opportunity and acquire his own wealth, if at all possible. Louis soon discovers that as a young Frenchman, he cannot remain neutral indefinitely while tensions escalate between staunch Loyalists and the more popular Sons of Liberty. Elizabeth Elliott, daughter of a well known British citizen, finds Louis to be an interesting social companion; well educated, acquainted with fine European trends and mannerisms, but nominally religious, almost lonely. As the two spend more time together, Elizabeth's deep faith and zest for life awakens a deep yearning within Louis. As business opportunities rapidly unfold, Louis faces lifechanging decisions on multiple fronts. Will Louis and Elizabeth allow God to hold them close as danger and uncertainty loom larger than life? \"Hold Me Close\" is a fascinating glimpse into the complexity of fractured loyalties experienced among family and friends, as our forefathers struggled up against Britain's stringent taxation. The fact that the book is based on the lives of actual Charleston, S. C. residents makes the novel quite a pleasurable example of historic fiction.
