Seventeen-year-old Adrielle doesn’t believe in magic; she merely possesses it. When Adrielle starts a fire that burns down the family home, she must deal with both her grief and rejection. Forced out of her village, she journeys to far away Tallinyne in search of her older, estranged sister—the only relative who might take her in. Thrust into a dangerous and unfamiliar world, Adrielle struggles to navigate a world of magic she never imagined where she is forced to make a choice no girl should ever have to—satisfying her own heart or saving the kingdom.

Summary
Think Sleeping Beauty with a twist. First Light is an excellent book. It has adventure, suspense, romance and humor. There are also fairies, gypsies and a wicked witch with a son; and of course a prince and princess. Adrielle was raised on a modest farm. She was the youngest eleven children. Though her family didn’t have much, she learned to make do with what was available. She had a gift with herbs and helped heal others when they were sick. But when her mother died suddenly from an apparent heart
attack, there was nothing Adrielle could do to heal her. A short time later her father died in a fire while she was out gathering herbs for tea. She found herself alone. Though she had siblings, none of them wanted to take her on. Not wanting to be where she was not wanted, Adrielle set out on her own and thus the adventure began. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy. It is a clean read.
Violence There is a fair amount of violence, but it is not gruesome.
Drug & Alcohol There is one character who is a drunk.
