FBI Agent Laurel Evertson’s investigation into a scam targeting the elderly takes an unexpected twist when key evidence leads her to Morton Wilmington, a felon she arrested five years ago on her first undercover assignment. That case has haunted her since, and though she’s vowed to forget Wilmington—and what she sacrificed to put him away—he is now her best lead. Houston Police Officer Daniel Hilton fears his grandparents may be the scammer’s next targets, and he’ll do anything to protect his family—even force interagency cooperation. But he’s quickly drawn to Laurel’s empathy and zeal and agrees to follow her lead . . . even if it means teaming up with a felon. As the unlikely trio uncovers evidence suggesting the scam is more extensive and deadly than they imagined, both Laurel and Daniel find themselves in the crosshairs of a killer. Together they must decide if they can trust Wilmington’s claims of redemption, or if he’s leading them straight into a double cross.

Summary
n unlikely trio; FBI agent, Houston police officer and a high¬end criminal¬turnedinformant; all working together to solve a high stakes scam targeting wealthy dementia patients out of thousands of dollars after being issued fake life insurance policies. Agent Laurel Everston cannot believe that she has been asked to team up with the very man, Morton Wilmington, who murdered her partner in a shoot¬out at the end of a successful undercover assignment. Officer Daniel Hilton agrees to help the FBI, primarily because his own grandfather was scammed and he is intrigued by the beautiful, but emotionally brittle, Laurel Everston. They neither one trust Wilmington, who claims to have had a religious conversion in prison and wants to aid law enforcement by bringing a former business partner to justice. All three will have to choose between guilt or grace before this case is finalized. \"Double Cross\" has a very detailed plot, with numerous twists, turns and mood swings between heroes and criminals alike. Scene changes are abrupt and in¬depth conversations are short, which may leave some readers with the impression that they were a little shortchanged. Regardless, we can all look forward to the third and final book in this series; \"Deadlock\".
Violence: Since this is a crime novel, there are murders and attempted murders, but the graphic descriptions are minimal.
