Two murders have rocked the city of Houston. Are they the work of a serial killer, or is a copycat trying to get away with murder?
That is the question facing Special Agent Bethany Sanchez, who is eager for her new assignment in violent crimes but anxious about meeting her new partner. Special Agent Thatcher Graves once arrested her brother, and he has a reputation for being a maverick. Plus, their investigative styles couldn’t be more opposite: he operates on instinct, while she goes by the book.
When hot leads soon fizzle out, their differences threaten to leave them deadlocked. But an attempt on their lives turns up the heat and brings them closer together, and a third victim might yield the clue that will help them zero in on a killer. This could be the case of their careers . . . if they can survive long enough to solve it.

Summary
Deadlock is book three in the FBI Houston series. I have not read the first two books and did not feel like I was missing anything. I think each book stands alone. I really liked the female lead, Special Agent Bethany Sanchez. In the opening of the book she is meeting her new partner as she moves to the violent crimes division. She has lots of drama both personal, family and work but I still really liked her. The author made her even more human by giving her diabetes. It made me chuckle that she wanted to be so by the book and her new partner was the total opposite. Special Agent Thatcher Graves is her new partner and just happens to be the agent who arrested her brother…. Did I mention there was some family drama. Thatcher does not work by the book; he prefers to operate based on his instincts. He treated her so well I really liked their interactions. I will read more by this author for sure.
Violence There are deaths, shootings, nothing I found disturbing or too graphic
Drug & Alcohol there are assumptions that some of the homeless people may be on drugs. not enough to count in my opinion.
