Honorably discharged from the Army after an explosion nearly killed her, former military psychiatrist Brooke Adams has set up shop to help others–but her days of helping military personnel are over. She’s got her own battles to fight from her time overseas, and she’s not equipped to take on more. Former Army Special Ops Sergeant First Class Asher James could handle anything that war sent his way–terrorists, bombs, bullets. The only thing that scares him now is sleep. As the shadows close in, the nightmares begin.
Finally convinced that he needs help, Asher makes an appointment with a counselor, and Brooke is pressed by her boss to take him on. When he arrives at her office she isn’t there–but a dead body is. Brooke is devastated when she walks in, and Asher is a conveniently strong shoulder to cry on. But she can’t take him on as a client after sharing such an intimate and unprofessional moment, can she? And he’s not sure he can handle sharing his deepest fears with such a beautiful woman.
When it becomes clear that Brooke was the real target of the attack–and that her secrets go even deeper than his own–Asher vows to protect her no matter what.

Summary
Collateral Damage by Lynette Eason is one of her best books to date and coming from me that is saying a lot! The book is waaay better than the book description suggests.
Brooke is a former military psychiatrist and a character that you want to get a happy ending. Although a psychiatrist, she deals with a lot of her own issues from being overseas in the Army, the people she tried to help and the explosion that almost killed her. I thought the book was very encouraging for anyone reading it who thinks they are not helping because they cannot see tangible results. Brooke learns later from several people that she was making a difference. In addition, I enjoyed how the author created authentic relationships between Brooke and her two friends.
Asher is a former army sergeant who has scheduled an appointment with Brooke to deal with his nightmares. He knew her from their time overseas. The action starts as soon as he arrives. And it is only the beginning. The book was action packed.
I found the storyline fresh and fascinating. The book was a great balance of action and interesting characters. I am thrilled for this new series. There are several things I would like to add but I don’t want to ruin it for you.
This would make a great book club book. There are several scenarios in the book to discuss how you would handle the dilemmas, what decisions would you make, how far would you go?
It is a must read. Truly!
I received this book from the pulisher. I was not required to write a positive review.
