Summary
Hey Clary, do you happen to know Harry? These particular books have achieved worldwide success, including a major motion picture in the works and a bestselling prequel trilogy. But I didn't particularly enjoy this book for one reason: I'd already read it, when it was called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Let's start at the beginning. An otherwise ordinary girl finds out she has \"special powers\" and is whisked away to a big mansion to be trained in her powers. She finds out that while she is gifted, ordinary people are called \"mundanes\" and are frowned upon by the gifted(Hmmmmmm...). She is given a special tool called a \"stele\" to perform her magic- which, basically, is a big WAND. Then, darkness falls- she learns there was once a powerful wiz- I mean, Shadowhunter, called Volde- I mean, Valentine. (Although I though this was kind of a stupid name- if I named my kid \"Valentine\", I wouldn't be surprised if he became an egotistical, discriminating madman. I thought it was so stupid I took to calling him \"Voldetine\" in my head.) Anyways, so Valentine is allegedly dead but there are whispers that maybe he's not so dead. Really? This Valentine guy also wants to eliminate all the mundanes, with the help of his loyal followers in the \"Circle\"- personally, I thought \"Death Eaters\" sounded a lot cooler. Well, the story goes on. But now that I've dissected the storyline, did I mention the author WRITES HARRY POTTER FANFICTION?!!!!!! Yeah. Cassandra Clare, author of the Draco Trilogy. These books weren't all bad. I enjoyed an engaging story and a few witty one-liners. But...I'd heard it before. A lot.
Violence-The violence was more monsters and stuff rather than guns or whatever, but still. Personally, I think the author has the lead hottie get wounded in the chest repeatedly so he can take his shirt off.
Language-Not much crude language
Sexual-The romance was more arguing than actual kissing or whatever. There were a TON of innuendos. There was a minor character who is gay but he never acts upon it.
Drug & Alcohol-There wasn't a lot of drinking that I could remember.
