Summary
From: Carol Pennington
Book Title: She Only Speaks to Butterflies
Book Author: Sandra Appleyard
What do you like about this book:
Denise lost her father at a young age to a car wreck. She has always had a love of butterflies and since the accident, she relates the butterflies to her dad. She hasn’t spoken since the accident 2 years ago, except for a few times when she has talked to the butterflies at the nearby butterfly conservatory. The doctors say her muteness is a result of post traumatic stress syndrome. Her mother, Sherry, just wants to hear her daughter’s angelic voice again.
This is a heartwarming story set in a very small town in the State of Arkansas. I guess it could be termed a romance, though that is not its main focus. There is even a bit of mystery added in. The author does a great job depicting life in a small town where everyone knows everyone else’s business. There are no sex scenes in this book, but there is some talk about sex. There are quite a few curse words, but nothing vulgar. Violence occurs during the story, but it is not graphic. Drinking is fairly heavily depicted. I would recommend this to the adult reader who enjoys reading about small town life.
