A gritty YA Christian Fantasy tackling difficult topics surrounding abuse, human trafficking, and the question “Why does God let bad things happen?”
Trinia’s Gift is the ability to duplicate herself perfectly in mind and body yet, every time she uses it, she feels like she loses another piece of her soul. Her abusive and power-hungry father, Caderyn, wishes to exploit her gift to create an army that obeys his command and rebuild the Airgíd Empire that fell a thousand years before.
Going on the run, Trinia seeks out the aid of the kingdoms that destroyed her people. When things don’t go as planned, she’s forced into trusting a failed mage, a man of legend with a vendetta, and a talking wolf to help her reach her goal by making a promise she isn’t sure she can keep.
As she wrestles with the ghosts of her past trauma and new ones that keep piling up, Trinia begins to wonder where the justice is in it all, and whether she has what it takes to stop her father and save her people.

“As with The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings, The City of Snow & Stars can be read on more than one level. It wrestles with Why does God let bad things happen? while gently showing readers how a relationship with God means you’re never alone – even through the bad.” — Pages & Paws, 4.5 Stars

What do you like about this book:
Trinia is the daughter of Caderyn, ruler of the Airgid Kingdom. However, her life is far from that of a princess. Suffering physical abuse from her father, and sexual abuse from his priest, Trinia gathers the nerve to escape in order to recruit help to stop her father from his evil plans. On her journey she meets a shape shifter wolf, an undercover crown prince, a legendary hero of old and a female shapeshifter named Batanny. Together they form an unlikely alliance to battle evil in numerous forms.
The City of Snow and Stars is a Christian Fiction Fantasy novel. It’s the first book I have read in this genre and I really enjoyed it. It is extremely well written and it is packed with action from beginning to end.
I absolutely loved getting to know each of the main characters. Trinia is a victim of abuse and suffers some of the ill effects of said abuse. However, she also has an inner strength that I really admired. Ugar is suffering from grief and seeks vengeance. However, he has a relationship with God that he just can’t leave behind, even though he tries. Jayden is running from his responsibilities, but he has a great sense of honor that I respect. Batanny also has a history of abuse. Although she is at a very low point when the reader first encounters her, she pulls herself up from the depths and makes the most of her situation. Mandar is my favorite character. He is steadfast and honorable.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy novel. I know I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.
