Izzy Shaw is a landscape gardener, deeply engrossed in getting her business off the ground and her clients’ gardens as perfect as a garden can be. Oliver Forbes is a high-powered lawyer, focused on ambition and money. They might never have met if it hadn’t been for Izzy’s plan to surprise her boyfriend Joe with a romantic weekend at a hotel.
When she realizes that Joe has been cheating on her, it’s too late to get her money back from the hotel, so she figures she can enjoy the spa treatments and the luxury of the hotel on her own. Instead, the romantic trappings and the happy couples seem to mock her misery.
As for Oliver, he’s putting up at the hotel while he has renovations done. Izzy looks like just the kind of vulnerable girl he likes to amuse himself with — and she turns out to be available for a one-night stand.
When they meet again, Izzy doesn’t know whether to be embarrassed or angry. Either way, she can’t turn down the chance to create a wonderful garden for the wealthy lawyer, can she? Will she be able to get past the discomfort of her out of character behavior… or the almost overwhelming desire she feels for him?
And Oliver may be more vulnerable than he thought, too. Somehow, his perfect bachelor home and perfect bachelor life seem a little less perfect when Izzy’s gone.
This is a light, enjoyable story with some steamy scenes and a satisfying ending.
