Mama Gets Trashed by Deborah SharpMeet the Bauer family: the irrepressible Mama in her sherbet-colored pantsuits and matching kitten-heel pumps, Maddie, Marty, and Mace, a jeans-and-boots kind of woman who works with animals. Together, these feisty and funny Florida women make short work of the mysteries they keep stumbling into.

This time, Mace and Mama find a body at the local dump — and not just any body. It’s the local librarian, a posh Brit who keeps herself to herself, in a diamond bracelet and leather fetish gear. Mace knows she shouldn’t keep anything from her handsome detective fiance, but when it looks as though her family is involved in something unsavory, she can’t help it.

This is a tightly plotted mystery with a great puzzle, plenty of tempting red herrings, and snappy dialogue. It’s well written, with characters who are a little over the top but still appealing and evocative descriptions of the Florida landscape that Sharp clearly loves.

The relationships among the Bauer family members, their romantic involvements, and their friends and members of the community are complex, realistic, and interesting.
