At first, it seems like a lark, and Maggie’s plucky spirit lets her treat it as an adventure. Later, as she learns about the horrors of the Nazi regime, the fun ends. Maggie learns more, too, about her family, herself, and the man she loves… Can she survive knowing these things?
This is a well-researched historical novel that brings up serious subjects alongside the tautly plotted and fast-paced adventure. It’s well written and fans of the series will be glad to see many returning characters. There are plenty of details about wartime Berlin, and end notes about many of the historical events alluded to in the book.
