"Serial killers. How were they talking about a serial killer?"
In between contracts, well known Hollywood actress Denise Masters had slipped home to Coventry, New Hampshire in order to spend time with her daughter during the holidays and to escape the constant drama associated with the film industry. Suddenly she was surrounded by bodyguards, and drawing the ire of her ex-husband for bringing danger near their daughter, and . . . . . . . nothing about this trip to the east coast was going according to plan. Except, Jon Donley, the head of her security team, had very definitive plans . . . . do exactly what he said to do, when he said to do it, no questions asked. After someone takes a shot at Denise, and a package with information about the still unsolved "Starlet Slayings" lands on her front porch, a supposed threat is becoming reality.
While the cleverly constructed plot line may have exhibited a few stutter steps early on, before righting itself rather nicely, the real strength of this story was Jon's curiosity about Denise's faith and the inconsistencies that he observed; one example being her ex-husband Reid Cote, whose disgust with Denise's past behavior tainting his perspective on everything that she said and did. Where was the forgiveness that Christians were always talking about? As the attraction grows between bodyguard and client, the spiritual chasm also grows wider, a seemingly insurmountable barrier between them . . . . one that only God can fill.
"He didn't know for sure what had him whispering prayers now, but they slipped out of his mouth - soundlessly, but no less there. 'Save her. Help us save her. Protect her. Guide us.' Did God answer those kinds of prayers?"
