Summary
Whiteout is a collection of two romantic suspense novellas by two of my favorite authors, Dani Pettrey and Lynette Eason. While I’m not a fan of cold-weather settings, both authors once again delivered gripping, well-crafted stories that completely pulled me in. Each novella centers around the danger and isolation caused by an avalanche, creating instant tension and high stakes.
In “Buried in Shadows” by Dani Pettrey, the story has a Clue-like feel. A small group of friends attending a destination wedding is forced to take shelter in an abandoned lodge after an avalanche. The suspense is heightened by the fact that Cassie is reunited with her ex-fiancé Joel for the first time since leaving him at the altar due to a stalker. Together, they must figure out who among their group is responsible for the stalking—and the murders—before it’s too late.
“Snowbound Secrets” by Lynette Eason takes place at a vacation lodge where guests are struggling to survive after an avalanche. I especially liked the theme of longtime friends reconnecting after years apart and how each character coped differently with PTSD. With multiple suspects and constant tension surrounding Maya, this story kept me guessing until the end.
Overall, Whiteout is an excellent romantic suspense collection filled with danger, emotional depth, and compelling mysteries—perfect for fans of Pettrey and Eason.
