GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT
When a drug-smuggling ring rocks a small coastal town, the DEA sends Agent Owen Matthews to shut it down. A single father with a deaf son, Owen senses that the town’s number one suspect—the high school’s new principal—doesn’t fit the profile. Miriam Hunter hoped to shrug off the stigma of her hearing impairment when she returned to Stepping Stones, Maine. But her recurring nightmares dredge up old memories that could prove her innocence—and uncover the truth behind a decades-old murder. Yet Owen’s help may not be enough when someone decides to keep Miriam silenced—permanently.

Summary
Overall Warning Signs was a very enjoyable read as it departed from your stereotypical romance. The female lead, Miriam, is a deaf principal that is very confident in her job but can be insecure in her personal life. The male lead, Owen is a complicated, guilt ridden DEA agent and father of a deaf son. The author makes the characters real and you are drawn to them. You learn to overcome some of your own misunderstandings about the deaf as Owen starts to understand Miriam and then his son. There were enough secondary characters to keep you guessing as to who was the culprit. For a series romance there was a lot of action and suspense. The inclusion of Owen’s son, Cole, his reason for being deaf and Owen’s reactions to it, added another dimension to the story that made it real and not your typical ‘perfect’ hero story. I recommend the book
and will be reading more books by Katy Lee. I think it would also make a good book for a book club discussion as there are several dimensions of the story.
Violence Nothing disturbing. There is danger and someone is trying to kill Miriam.
