Summary
The Pursuit of Mrs Pennyworth by Callie Hutton. I will admit right now i chose to read this book based on the cover alone. There was just something about it that drew my attention and i just had to read it.
Mrs Pennyworth is a widow and just came out of her one year of mourning. She has been receiving gifts at her front door step and sometimes they are gruesome. She has hired a private detective to help her as the police are too busy searching for Jack the Ripper.
Elliot, the detective attends events with her because they assume that the admirer is someone that she within her events. I enjoyed the interaction and chemistry between Charlotte and Elliot. Great suspense on who was leaving her ‘gifts’.
Sexual content – Charlotte and Elliot have attraction from the beginning however nothing physical happens until three quarters of the way through the book. It was describe in detail.
Violence – someone is shot, beat up, and gruesome gifts left at the front door.
Drinking – they used drinking to calm her down when something bad would happen.
Drugs- I found it interesting the doctor was telling them to be careful with the laudanuam so as not to get addicted.
