A horrifying encounter drags soon-to-be-married Maria Landro into the shocking world of religious corruption and an unrelenting village code of honor that threatens to rob her of everything she holds dear. Shunned by the very people who should have embraced her, she withdraws into the confines of Bella Terra, her family’s farm, and remains there for several years . . . until she is forced to leave to ensure the formal education of her son. In a desperate attempt to protect her child from vicious tongues and malicious hate-mongers and her family farm from bankruptcy, she determines to seek vengeance against the one who ruined her life. But when Luca Tonetta enters her life, Maria learns a powerful lesson about forgiveness and grace.

Book Title: The Madonna of Pisano
Book Author: Maryann Diorio
What do you like about this book:
Maria’s life on her family farm was perfect, until she was violated at the age of 17 and became pregnant as a result. The perpetrator threatened her life and the lives of her family if she were to reveal the event. Her world was turned upside down. Her fiancé broke their engagement and her family was shunned because of her “disgrace”. Because of her, her family farm is deep in debt and they are in danger of losing it.
This is a wonderful book set in Sicily in the late 1800s. The description of the setting made me wish to visit the area. It is a clean romance with a central theme of forgiveness. The struggles the perpetrator undergoes to hide his transgression is very well described. The romance between Maria and Luca is very heartwarming. The book does have some violence. There is sexual violence, but it is not described in detail. There are no curse words. I recommend this book to the mature reader who enjoys Christian romance.
