Summary
Audiobook Review: The Juliet Code by Pepper Basham
The Juliet Code is the third book in Pepper Basham’s Freddie and Grace Mystery series, and it is another delightful addition to a series that has quickly become one of my favorites. This installment delivered plenty of mystery, humor, and heart, while continuing the adventures of one of the most lovable couples I’ve encountered in fiction.
One of the highlights for me was seeing Detective Jack play a much larger role in the story. The mystery itself gave me Knives Out vibes with its intriguing cast of suspects, secrets, and twists.
As always, Grace is an absolute delight. Her enthusiasm for mysteries is as strong as ever, and I loved watching her draw connections from all the mystery novels she has read. Basham also creates some hilarious moments as Grace decides she wants to learn new skills, leading to several scenes that had me laughing out loud.
Another standout was the friendship between Freddie and Jack. Their banter, sarcasm, and constant teasing added so much fun to the story. Their interactions felt natural and entertaining, and I found myself looking forward to every scene they shared.
Although Freddie and Grace are technically still supposed to be enjoying their honeymoon, they seem to spend most of their time solving mysteries and I wouldn’t have it any other way! One thing I particularly enjoyed in this book was seeing Freddie become more invested in the mysteries himself. Watching him embrace Grace’s passion added another layer to their already wonderful relationship.
As with the previous books, Basham seamlessly weaves faith themes into the story while delivering memorable characters, humor, romance, and suspense. I’ve mentioned before that I’m relatively new to Pepper Basham’s writing, but binge-listening to this series has been such a treat. I was fortunate to find the audiobooks through my library, and they have been wonderful companions.
Needless to say, I’m already off to download book four—and then I’ll be anxiously waiting for book five, The Bachelor’s Spy!
Content Notes: Closed-door romance between a married couple with some innuendo and mildly suggestive moments. Moderate suspense and some violence.
