The third book in the Solitary Tales series for young adults, Temptation follows the soul-wrenching twists of Chris Buckley’s journey as he heads deeper into a darkness that threatens all he loves best. As a reluctant student at Harrington High’s summer school, Chris meets a fun-loving senior girl who offers a welcome diversion from Chris’s past. Soon Chris no longer searches for the truth about the town of Solitary. He no longer tries to pierce its shadows. He no longer questions his role in its mysteries. He makes a new choice: he runs. What he doesn’t realize is that he’s running the wrong way—and is very close to being beyond any choices at all.

Summery::
With the series slowly drawing to a close, the author does something I've rarely seen: he continues to ask more questions--puzzling, seemingly unsolvable question involving spooky houses and strange people, yes. But also questions of human nature and how our actions effect others, about love and hate, life and death, which makes you wonder: is the author biting off more than he can chew> Will he be able to answer all these questions? I would say yes, if it were any other story. But The Solitary Tales is not like any other series I've ever encountered--with so much going on...well, who knows? Temptation is indeed more violent and puzzling than its sister novels, and frustration begins to build. No doubt, this is an extremely well thought out story, well constructed, and brilliantly told, which is part of the reason that it's frustrating. You not only bare an interest for the story, but an emotional attachment to the characters. As the series swims along, more and more allegory seems to rise to the surface, becoming more apparent and more mind-blowing. And these questions Mr. Thrasher asks, personally, have shaken me to my deepest core.
Sexual Content::
There's quite a bit of sexual tension between couples, which leads to blatant sexual desire in a chapter fittingly entitled, The Sex Chapter (he takes her home hoping to "do it and get it over with")--but thankfully that desire is not fulfilled, despite a few close-calls (several other sense are like this, one where they both go home with the same intention, but are prevented from doing so). Chris thinks about how close he's gotten to having sex, which apparently was "close." In a dream, Chris thinks about a girl telling him she wants to "make some babies." A guy jokes briefly about a nightcap at a barn to one of the girls. She returns with some mild suggestive quips. People flirt. A card game is supposed to determine what couples leave the party for a one-night-stand. Couples kiss passionately several times and share romantic moments (including, oddly, a bite on the ear). Lily's revealing outfits are described with little detail.
Violent Content::
A startling moment comes when a man is found with his face bloodied badly and his nose completely gone. Blood shows up a lot more in this installment and is used to describe some unsettling things. Someone is attacked and shot and others are stabbed several times in the wrist with quite a bit of blood. References to the abuse and murder of a teenage girl. Some violent analogies. A father beats his son with a metal spoon. A dream sequence shows a snake slithering out of a girl's mouth. There's a car accident.
Language::
A use of "jacka--" and of "d--n". Uses of "freaking" and "I swear" along with God's name.
Drug/Alcohol Content::
Teens smoke and drink. Again, a lot of drunkenness, but this time with teens as well. Frequent drug references including teens as well.
TCR:: 2.5/5
