What do you like about this book:
Summery::
As you have probably noticed from my previous reviews, I admire Lawhead for his subtle imagery and intriguing detail, which I find immensely relaxing. His stories, although not particularly exciting or suspenseful, are a portal to whole other world, one of beauty and magic, love and adventure, but most of all, peacefulness. Lawhead offers all these aspects in Taliesin, and quite eloquently I might add. However where this story falls short is in its clumsy plot construction and, while one the subject, a woefully feeble plot in and of itself. And when a Lawhead novel has no plot or splendor, it has virtually nothing at all.
Sexual Content::
Charis walks in on a couple tangled in the sheets; it is said many times that the woman was a prostitute. Romance is laced throughout the story, and, especially Morgian, is of seductive character. At one point, she attempts to lure Taliesin in with her flirtatious comments and actions. Some scenes of sensuality appear when a newly married couple goes on their "honeymoon," but the author always cuts it short or avoids detail all together, describing more the character's feelings and their thoughts. Bull dancers will wear bikini-like garments while performing.
Violent Content::
Although infrequent, its violence is pretty unsettling. An entire city is consumed by fire, killing off millions. Multiple battles are fought and people are murdered, adding more bodies to the burn pile. A woman is injured by a charging bull. An infant is found in a sac at the bottom of a river.
Language::
Occasional uses of "b--tard", some abuses of God's name. A woman is referred to as a "whore" at least three times.
Drug/Alcohol Content::
Men drink wine, and some are said to get drunk.
