Mentioned in the pages of the Septuagint but lost to history, the Book of the Wars has resurfaced, and its pages hold secrets–and dangers–never before seen on earth.
Tasked with capturing the ancient text, former Navy SEAL Leif Metcalfe is finally given command of his own team. But their best efforts are ruined when a notorious Bulgarian operative known as “Viorica” snatches the volume right out from under them.
Iskra “Viorica” Todorova is determined to use the book to secure the thing that matters most–freedom. But a series of strange storms erupts around the globe and the coming dangers foretold in the text threaten crops, lives–entire nations. Though both are haunted by secrets of the past and neither trusts the other, Leif and Iskra must form an uneasy alliance to thwart impending disaster. However, the truth hidden in two-
thousand-year-old words could unleash the storm of their own destruction.

Summary
Storm Rising by Ronie Kendig is the first book in the new Book of Wars series. I was fascinated by Leif and cannot wait to learn even more about him and his skills. And what happened to him and his team, and the 6 months that he cannot remember. He was the highlight of the book to me. Leif is a navy seal and if you follow Kendig he is the brother to Canyon Metcalfe from Wolfesbane(Discarded Heros-book 3).
Leif has been given a team to find the Book of Wars. I was thrilled that we have Mercy and Cell back for Leif’s team. Devine was another character that I enjoyed. Her skills were impressive.
Kendig did a good job of redeeming Iskra, an assassin. She has you believing she will be good for Leif. Some fun scenes when Leif and Iskra are both going after the same items-think Mr and Mrs Smith.
The Book of Wars was fascinating. In addition, it was frightening to think someone could control the weather. Especially since most of the US has been flooding for the last month.
Storm Rising didn’t have as many faith elements I was expecting and was a little darker than I expected.
It is a great story and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
If you are new to Kendig’s writing the introduction of the team may seem overwhelming. Hang in there. It is worth it.
Violence – you know that Iskra has been raped since a young age and held against her will.
I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.
