Summary
Audiobook Review: Scent of Hope by Susan May Warren
Narrated by Brian Hutchison
Scent of Hope is the second book in the series, but it works very well as a standalone. I had not read the first book and never felt lost while listening.
Set against the rugged backdrop of Alaska, this story combines emotional depth with nonstop suspense. Harley is a particularly interesting heroine with a complex backstory. I appreciated how Susan May Warren balanced her toughness with vulnerability, making her feel strong yet still very human and relatable.
Jericho’s scent dog, Orlando, was one of my favorite parts of the story. I always enjoy learning more about working dogs in suspense novels, and the way Orlando’s abilities were incorporated into the investigation added both realism and excitement to the story.
One of the strongest aspects of the book was the complicated history between Harley and Jericho. Their shared past unfolds gradually throughout the story, revealing layers of grief, misunderstandings, and unresolved emotions. Both characters have endured tremendous loss—their parents died together, and Harley also lost her brother, which adds emotional weight to their relationship and motivations.
This is an action-packed romantic suspense filled with danger and tension as Harley and Jericho find themselves being hunted while also trying to track down a killer. The pacing kept me fully engaged, and the Alaskan setting added an extra layer of intensity to the story.
Brian Hutchison did an excellent job with the narration, bringing the suspense and emotional moments to life while keeping the story easy to stay immersed in.
