Summary
Overall Tracie Peterson wraps up the dangling details of the Yukon Quest series, yet leaves the reader wanting more. The previous novel left the reader thinking that Miranda Colton had drowned as the group was crossing a turbulent lake in their effort to go further north in the Yukon frontier. However, we find that Miranda has not drowned, but after washing up on the shores of the lake, was rescued and cared for by wealthy botanist, Teddy Davenport. As Miranda grows stronger she begins to fall in love with her rescuer and ultimately marries him. Meanwhile, the rest of the group continues to struggle to get further north. Grace finally reveals her pregnancy and gives birth; her estranged husband, Peter finds the Lord and spends much of the novel struggling with his poor treatment of his wife whom he thinks is dead. Jacob finally realizes that he is not responsible for living out his father's greed for gold, but then finds himself accused of murdering a man. While I enjoyed reading the novel, there were some elements of it that were somewhat unbelievable they seemed almost forced in order to wrap up the series. I don't think this is one of her best novels, but she's such a talented author, she kept me reading. If you liked the series, there is a follow up series of novels called the Alaskan Quest, which continues the stories of some of the characters.
