Summary
Lily Laughlin and McAlister "Mac" Albright met under the most humiliating, or perhaps the most entertaining, of circumstances; depending on who you asked. Regardless, it was Mr. Albright's secret to keep; the first of many as it turned out. Arriving on his newly purchased Shenandoah Valley property, the young sea captain and his former first mate find that the land owner has no inkling of an idea that a portion of her property has even been sold.
When bringing the matter to her self-appointed guardian, Lily's distrust of Mr. Silas Everett and his motives for deepening her dependence upon his oversight, grows ever stronger. She has never believed that her father left them penniless, and is beginning to believe that Mr. Everett simply wants to force her into a loveless marriage. How can her family's deepening friendship with their new neighbors be part of the solution, when she spends so much time sparring with the handsome, infuriating captain?
Don't, for one minute, underestimate the power of this little story! Just like its characters, the pages are not only filled with delightful wit and romantic banter, but also with the kind of authentic depth that comes when an seemingly impossible "dilemma" is handed over to a God with whom "all things are possible".
