Summary
Overall Have you ever known someone you could hardly stand because she is all about herself: how she looks, what's the latest trinket or new item of clothing she can show off, how she can get her way. This pretty much describes the protagonist of this third novel in the Lone Star Bride series by Tracie Peterson. At least this is how most people, including her friends, would describe her. But when the man she had always planned to marry married another, Jessica Atherton's world was rocked significantly. Now she's twenty-one going on twenty-two, unmarried and beginning to rethink her former behavior. Peterson does a good job of leading her protagonist through
thought processes and contemplation of the heart toward becoming the woman God truly means for her to be. I like that several times Jessica states that it is her intention to change, and rather than just expecting others to believe her, she realizes that she needs to act upon her desire in a consistent manner AND give others time to see that she means what she says. That is key. Words are cheap. Actions speak louder than words! Even more important, we see Jessica repent of her sinful past and
recommit her life to the Lord. Another thematic element deals with life events that have the power to derail our lives, if we choose to let them. Sometimes we can't see God for our grief and our pain, but Ms. Peterson leads her readers to see that He is indeed there all along. This novel also wraps up more of the story of the previous
novel in the series. An all around good read.
