Summary
Ruthie Turner dreams of the day when she can escape her suffocating life in the bleak little town of Trapp, Texas. Working two jobs in order to support her often-unemployed, mentally unstable mother and herself, ostracized for years by many of the local upstanding citizens, and distrusting anyone who dares to befriend her, Ruthie is a lovely, but lonely twenty-one year old woman. Sadly, the downward spiral began in church, of all places. Dodd Cunningham, his mother, and teen-age brother arrive in Trapp, Texas, hoping to begin a new life after the death of his father. Dodd is also working two jobs; teaching math at the local high school and pastoring the small congregation that shunned Ruthie and her mother so many years prior. Everyone in Trapp, Texas crosses paths, so when Dodd and Ruthie meet in Trapp\'s small food mart where she works, the attraction is instantaneous, at least from Dodd\'s perspective. Ruthie is simply bewildered. Ruthie and Dodd are destined to travel a very crooked path, navigating land mines of hatred and bewilderment, of prejudice and cynicism, of love and hate; ultimately exposing ugly, menacing secrets that will unravel the peaceful facade of an entire town. And God? He is definitely the third major character in this fascinating saga. Simplistic in its approach to story, yet highly profound in its message, \"Jaded\" will leave readers pondering long after the back cover closes.
