Witemeyer Returns with Her Trademark Blend of Adventure, Romance, and Humor
Grace Mallory is tired of running, of hiding. But when an old friend sends an after-hours telegraph transmission warning Grace that the man who has hunted her for nearly a year has discovered her location, she fears she has no choice. She can’t let the villain she believes responsible for her father’s death release his wrath in Harper’s Station, the town that has sheltered her and blessed her with the dearest friends she’s ever known.
Amos Bledsoe prefers bicycles to horses and private conversations over the telegraph wire to social gatherings with young ladies who see him as nothing more than an oddity. His telegraph companion, the mysterious Miss G, listens eagerly to his ramblings every night and delights him with tales all her own. For months, their friendship–dare he believe, courtship?–has fed his hope that he has finally found the woman God intended for him. Yet when he takes the next step to meet her in person, he discovers her life is in peril, and Amos must decide if he can shed the cocoon of his quiet nature to become the hero Grace requires.

Book Title: Heart on the Line
Book Author: Karen Witemeyer
What do you like about this book:
"She'd envisioned a tall man with midnight hair and skin tanned from working outdoors, which was ridiculous, since she knew Mr. A worked in a Western Union office."
Grace Mallory has tucked herself away in Harper's Station, hoping that the man responsible for gunning down her beloved father in broad daylight won't suspect that she has taken refuge in a women's colony; busily honing her skills as a telegraph operator by day and corresponding with a kind, yet unknown face in the after hours. When an abrupt warning is intercepted over the line, it becomes clear that Grace's whereabouts have been discovered; what she could have never predicted was how precious she had become to a man whom she had never met.
Grace Mallory and Amos Bledsoe are delightfully entertaining characters, with their attention to protocol, delicious wit, and nearly adolescent adoration. With lines like, "I am afraid my ardency got a bit out of hand", who wouldn't love the suited suitor with a heart of gold and a spine of steel, which he is going to need, when circumstances spiral out of control?
"Only a master weaver could intertwine dark and light threads in such a way that all one saw was beauty when looking back at the finished tapestry." Karen Witemeyer has certainly added a lovely addition to her new series.
