A Fresh Voice in Historical Romance!
While Lydia King’s reasons for joining the Teaville Moral Society might be suspect to some members, her heart is in the right place. Because of her father’s debts and her mother’s persistent illness, her best chance at a secure future and curing her mother is to impress the politician courting her. Her first task–to ask the town’s wealthiest man to donate–seems simple enough . . . until he refuses.
Despite appearances, Nicholas Lowe wants to help others, but prefers to keep his charity private. When Lydia proves persistent, they agree to a bargain, but Nicholas still intends to do things his own way. Neither predicts what they’ll learn about true charity or foresee the complications their actions will bring to the town, forcing Lydia to decide where her beliefs and heart truly align.

What do you like about this book:
"On behalf of the Teaville Ladies Moral Society, I've been tasked to present you with the opportunity to support our . . . " "No."
Lydia King's future seems to depend on convincing local business mogul Nicholas Lowe to deem their society's philanthropic endeavors to make blankets for the needy worth thirty of his hard earned dollars, her nearly-mother-in-law considering it some sort of entrance exam into the political realm that Lydia would be marrying. The fact that Lydia is obviously desperate to marry someone who could provide for her future, drives Lydia to push her conscience into a quiet corner; determined to supply her dying mother with the consolation that her only child's happiness will be secure.
Nicholas Lowe prefers to keep his generosity within the small Kansas town a much guarded secret, that is, until a lovely Lydia King demonstrates a tenacity the likes of which he can only admire; from a distance of course, since she is practically engaged to the mayor's son. After sparring with Lydia on numerous occasions about a measly thirty dollars, Nicholas decides to put his intuition to the test and offers Lydia an agreement that she can hardly refuse; furthermore, he is delighted when she not only takes the bait, but surprises him even further with her willingness to form a fragile covert partnership in his charitable endeavors.
As Lydia's courage begins to over shadow her good sense, she is caught between serving the God who dearly loves "the least of these" and trying to maintain her own good standing within the community; indeed, her heart is also inexplicably drawn to the man who opened her eyes to the hypocrisy she once maintained as truth. Nicholas Lowe remains an enigma when it comes to his true feelings about Lydia, but ultimately, he is the one in whom she must place her trust, for it appears that her very life may depend on it.
"A Heart Most Certain" is the epitome of inspirational fiction, daring its readers to maintain a "status quo" viewpoint regarding ministry to the downtrodden, after delving into its pages. It's simply not possible, nor should it be.
