Summary
As a reader, I'm always on a quest for the perfect four-star adventure with some cool fight scenes, a refreshing plot, and a hot romance. TGFT was a fantastic break from the string of mediocre, lukewarm fantasies I've found myself stuck with all summer. I loved the main character, first of all, which is rare. And really, I loved her because, at the beginning of the book, she is SO pathetic. She eats her feelings, she's always afraid, and she has no self-confidence. But by the end she's this total boss, barking orders and fighting battles like nobody's business. So that was cool. The other thing that made this book fabulous was the military aspect. There was all kinds of military strategy and battle tactics, which made me drool. (I love that kind of stuff. Call me a nerd.) Finally, the setting and plot were perfect. The main focus of the book is religion, which was different and very thought-provoking. Combined with what seems to be a Spanish-inspired culture, this was a book unlike anything I had read in a long, long time. I recommend it to anyone who likes epic adventures, high fantasy, and is in need of a refreshing new YA adventure that does NOT involve faeries, angels, or shirtless boys.
Violence-This book is centered around a war, and a lot of people got shot, poisoned, or stabbed.
Language-None
Sexual-The romance aspect of this book was pretty small (YAY!), some kissing and talking about sex.
Drug & Alcohol-They drank wine with all their meals
