Summary
Reviewer Name : emilybedwell All Lark Singer wants to do is win American Singer and get out of her one¬note town. Lark doesn't know who her dad is, and her mom has been in a series of non relationships up until this point. Her only solace is her music, her Gibson and the band she and her friend Bean formed. The Gideon Lee of the title is the lead singer of Lark's favorite band, and the subject of a history paper Lark writes. But life for Lark isn't just about the music. Along the way, she has to navigate high school, the popular girl suddenly taking an interest in her life, and Bean's increasingly odd and suspicious behavior. Bean's brother had a problem with drugs and Lark is starting to worry that Bean may be hiding something dark from her. But, she's his best friend ¬ surely he would tell her if something was going on ¬ right? Gideon Lee is a quick, one¬sitting kind of read. In fact, the book ends so abruptly that I had to ask friends and search the internet to see if my copy was just missing something (it wasn't). Gideon Lee is the first in a series of books called the Starlight Chronicles. Overall, the book was enjoyable, but not super memorable to me. I read it quickly, skimming over some of the details and getting just the basics of the story. The writing style is simple, but author Lisa Orchard uses a lot of description, which can make the reader feel a little bogged down. I would continue reading the series just because the first one ended so abruptly. I want to know what's going on with Bean and if they make it on the show.
