Her carefully crafted life is about to be demolished.
After a difficult childhood, Samantha Williams craves simplicity: jigsaw puzzles, lectures at the library, and the students she adores in her role as an elementary school art teacher in the dusty farming community of LaCrosse, Washington.
But when an SUV crashes into the building where she teaches, her entire world is upended. Samantha manages to keep the children safe, but her car isn’t so lucky. Oddly, her purse—with her driver’s license, credit cards, and other identification—is missing from the wreckage.
After authorities discover that the driver in the accident was shot seconds before the crash, Samantha quickly becomes entangled in increasingly strange events that have her constantly looking over her shoulder.
Samantha has long tried to forget the tragedy of her past, but the twisting connections she discovers between the murdered driver, a deadly secret government project, and an abandoned town can’t be ignored. Those involved are determined to keep these secrets buried, and they’ll use any means necessary to stop Samantha’s search for truth.

"Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." - Christopher Robin
And in need of a place to live, clothes to wear, a car to drive and answers to more questions that she could possibly ask. What in the world just happened?
"A black Suburban was barreling across the parking lot directly at my classroom." . . . was what just happened. Art instructor Samantha Williams' quick thinking saved the lives of her students, but her own life became a muddled mess of destroyed property, a dead driver, and loss of immediate employment. Befriended by virtual strangers, Samantha seeks refuge in a local rehabilitation center, Clan Firinn, being offered a stay in their finely furnished guest cottage. Dr. Dustin "Dutch" Van Seters, the passenger who survived the crash, was a staff member, and Dr. Brun, the director, seemed eager to assist.
Samantha cautiously hoped that life would go back to a semblance of normalcy . . . but with reoccurring nightmares about her parents' untimely deaths, dead bodies showing up on the center's construction site, and several attempts on her life, Samantha is forced to re-think everything she knows about her past, while desperately trying to decide who to trust with her future.
Honestly, this story line was impossible to fully comprehend up until the very end, when the characters themselves (or rather Samantha) connected its impressive, albeit dizzying, array of dots. Befuddlement quickly transformed into admiration for an author who could take so many elements of historical fact, and with seemingly effortless finesse, weave them into an amazing display of suspenseful fiction.
