She married him to stay in the country. She didn’t expect him to feel like home.
Sarah Stone never meant to marry a hockey player.
She doesn’t even like hockey—too loud, too violent. But when her visa runs out and going home isn’t an option, marrying one of her brother’s teammates becomes the fastest way to stay in the country.
Carter Williamson is boyishly handsome, charming, and exactly the kind of man who makes a temporary marriage feel dangerous in all the wrong (right?) ways. He respects the rules, takes the pretending seriously, and somehow manages to make her feel safer than she has in years.
Which is inconvenient because he’s also determined to keep things strictly business.
Or so he says. Something about the way he looks at her makes Sarah think he’s struggling as much as she is to remember their marriage is fake.
But then a crisis on the ice sends them both into a tailspin, and Carter and Sarah have to decide if the fragile life they’ve built together is one they want to fight for.
This was supposed to be paperwork. Not feelings.
Definitely not love.
Could’ve Fooled Me is a marriage of convenience, low-spice hockey romance with chemistry, tension, and steamy kisses…but only kisses on the page.

Summary
Could've Fooled Me is the first book in Jenny Proctor’s Georgia Jaguars Hockey series, and it completely won me over. This is one of those rare books that I finished and immediately knew I would want to reread someday.
Let’s start with Carter, he is absolutely swoon-worthy. When he agrees to marry Sarah so she can remain in the country, at the request of her brother Miles, who also happens to be Carter’s hockey captain, the stage is set for a heartwarming marriage-of-convenience romance. From the beginning, Carter and Sarah were impossible not to root for.
One of my favorite things about Carter was how supportive he was of Sarah and her artistic career. He consistently encouraged her dreams and believed in her talents, which made him even more lovable. Their relationship develops naturally and is filled with sweet moments, thoughtful gestures, and genuine care for one another.
I also loved the relationships beyond the romance. Carter’s bond with his twin brother, Theo, was one of the highlights of the book. As a defensive duo on the hockey team, they share a close friendship and brotherly connection that added so much heart to the story. I was thrilled to discover that Theo gets his own book because I’ll definitely be downloading it soon.
The supporting cast was equally wonderful. Carter has a great group of friends he can lean on, and Holly and his daughter brought so much warmth and humor to the story. Holly’s daughter, in particular, steals the spotlight in several scenes and was absolutely adorable. I really hope he gets his own book too.
There were so many moments that made me smile; the thoughtful ways Carter showed his love and support. I especially loved how Sarah wanted Carter when she needed encouragement or was struggling. Those small moments made their relationship feel authentic and deeply caring.
If you enjoy sweet hockey romances, marriage-of-convenience stories, and genuinely lovable characters, Could've Fooled Me is one I highly recommend. It’s heartwarming, charming, and filled with characters you'll want to spend more time with long after the final page. ❤️🏒
Content Notes: Closed-door romance with kissing; no explicit scenes.
