Summary
Book Review: Cold Case Revenge by Jessica R. Patch
Cold Case Revenge by Jessica R. Patch was an engaging and suspenseful mystery with plenty of action, danger, and heart. As book six in the Pacific Northwest K-9 Unit series, I would definitely recommend reading the series in order if possible. While I was still able to fully enjoy both the mystery and the romance as a standalone, it was clear that some storylines and character relationships carry throughout the series. At times, I felt like I was missing some background information, and keeping up with the large cast of characters could be a little challenging. That said, I enjoyed this book enough that I now want to go back and read the earlier installments.
The story begins when Nick’s young daughter is abducted during a festival, and Ruby is called in with her K-9 partner, Pepper, to help with the search. Since I’m always drawn to books featuring working dogs, the K-9 element was what initially caught my attention, and Pepper definitely did not disappoint.
The timing of the abduction adds even more emotional weight to the story, occurring near the anniversary of Nick’s sister’s disappearance twenty-five years earlier. Trying to determine if there was a connection between the past and present mysteries kept the suspense high and made the investigation especially compelling.
One of my favorite parts of the story was the relationship between Ruby and Nick’s daughter, Zoe. Zoe was absolutely adorable and brought warmth and emotional depth to an otherwise intense storyline.
If you enjoy romantic suspense, cold case mysteries, and K-9-centered stories, Cold Case Revenge is definitely worth picking up, especially if you love interconnected series with recurring characters and ongoing storylines.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story and mystery. Jessica is a phenomenal storyteller.
