Summary
The oldest of three sisters sent to be a mail order bride, Chastity has made a life for herself as mother to two beautiful girls. With her firstborn on the way, Chastity realizes that danger lurks to destroy her hope of a happy future.
This picks up about 8 months from where the first story ended. Chastity's genuine affection for her stepdaughters was heartwarming. Her life is pleasant and she is understandably alarmed when a threatening note, the second she has seen, arrives out of nowhere. This was slightly longer than the first story, and focused more on one character which allowed us more time to know Chastity.
While the suspense remains high in the story, it does suffer in other areas. Since we don’t see Chastity and Zeke intereact more than a few times, its harder to believe the romance between them. We are told they have fallen in love with each other, but I didn’t see it. Chastity's anger at certain things being kept from her came across extreme and uncomfortable to me.
There were aspects of the story that stretched the bounds of believability for me. I'm also not fond of tales which bounce from one person to another in the same scene.
Still, this is a sweet, Historical/Inspirational short story that I would recommend to readers who enjoyed the previous story.
I was gifted a copy from the author and my opinion is my own.
