When Lieutenant Michael Carrington suffers career ending wounds as the result of a freak accident aboard an aircraft carrier, he could never have pictured himself as a glorified stateside baby sitter for his wing man's little sister. All in all, it has been a rather pleasant assignment, regardless of being a fighter pilot turned double amputee, for "Jack" Jacqueline Rogers is a force to be reckoned with in a lovely little package, whose ex -boyfriend continually hovers on the fringes of a protective order. She obviously needs someone to "stand in her corner", in spite of the tidal waves of emotions that assault Michael whenever he and Jackie interact for any length of time. They're just friends, and for Jackie's sake, it needs to stay that way.
Jack Rogers has been taking care of herself for a long, long time. She doesn't need her older brother controlling her life, especially when he is miles away on deployment. But the wounded warrior that shows up in the doorway of her hangar one morning is just as stubborn as she is; Michael Carrington can sure put her senses on high alert, and he seems sincere, but she has been fooled once before.
Weaving this intriguing scenario together with that of a young female pilot serving in WWII, Sarah Monzon has managed to tell two great stories that eventually intersect, while continuing what is proving to be a wonderful Carrington family series. Regardless of the decades spanning between them, her characters are reminded that they are divinely connected to a God whose plans are incredibly higher than any one of them could ask or think. And if the "best three words in the English language" come up in conversation, then so be it!
