Summary
Buried Wilderness Secrets is a well-written cold case mystery with a compelling storyline that kept me turning pages to uncover the truth. Jaime Jo Wright has a gift for crafting suspense, and the mystery itself was intriguing enough that I wanted to see it through to the end.
That said, I had a hard time connecting with the female lead. Her actions often came across as immature and unnecessarily combative, and I struggled to understand some of her choices—especially given the dangerous circumstances she was in. For example, planning a picnic shortly after an attack felt unrealistic and disconnected from the urgency of the situation.
Wade’s character, on the other hand, was someone I really liked. He was grounded and likable, and it was hard to imagine his attraction to someone whose behavior felt so erratic at times.
While the character dynamics didn’t work for me, fans of mystery and suspense may still enjoy this story for its twists and turns. I appreciate the author’s skill in weaving together a layered mystery, even if this particular heroine wasn’t for me.
