Brother John: A Monk, a Pilgrm and the Purpose of Life by August Turak will draw you in and provide insight that you may not have realized you were looking for. August has a talent for saying a lot in very few words. For such a short book it packs a punch. It will inspire you think and reflect.
Brother John is a true story of a successful CEO and entrepreneur who visits the Trappist monks which I was surprised to realize were in the US. The author later entered a contest to explore what is the purpose of Life. From that contest, the book has been birthed. The purpose of the book was to explore the Purpose of Life and August does this beautifully and subtly.
The illustrations added so much to the story. You could envision the monastery from his illustrations. I was thrilled to read the illustrator, Glenn Harrington, visited the monastery to ensure he captured it authentically.
I highly recommend the book. I feel my words are not adequate to explain the essence of the book.
Update: My father in law was visiting recently and read Brother John. He also felt it was a great book and was able to deliver a powerful message.
