A cold case heats up when a 9-1-1 call puts police at a Denver murder scene, pointing investigators to the abduction of a Colorado teenager fourteen years earlier. A calling card–a single black pearl–is found on the newest victim. Is the murder a copycat? Or has a twisted serial killer, thought dead or in prison, returned to strike again?
Soon, the hunt for a multi-state killer is on and brings together an unexpected team: a Denver Major Crimes police lieutenant; an FBI special agent who investigated the previous murders; a rookie FBI agent with a specialty in psychology; and the only living victim of the Black Pearl Killer, who is now a cop.
For Special Agent Brian DiPietro, the case is an opportunity to find answers. For Officer Allison Shannon, the case will force her to face down the town that blamed her for surviving when another did not. And for both DiPietro and Shannon, it’s a chance for both to find closure to questions that have tormented them for years.

Book Title: Black Pearl
Book Author: Donnell Ann Bell
What do you like about this book:
Fourteen years ago a teenage girl was murdered in a small town in Colorado. Her killer was never caught. Now, it appears he has struck again in Denver. One of the original FBI investigators is consulted by the local police. As a result, a task force is formed to track down and catch the killer. Among the task force is the best friend of the murdered teenager, now a police officer in Colorado Springs. Will they be able to determine the killer’s identity before he strikes again?
The credits at the end of the book state that this is the author’s first suspense novel, but I would have never guessed that after reading the book. It is extremely well written; the attention to detail superb. I almost felt as I were part of the task force. I was kept guessing as should be with a suspense. My only disappointment with the book was the large amount of foul language it contained. I get it that foul language is all too common in law enforcement novels, but I prefer not to read it. I almost quit the book just a few chapters in because of the language, but it had such potential that I just tried my best to skim over and ignore the parts that were offensive to me. The violence is also strong, but not graphic. There are not any sex scenes in the book. I would recommend this book to the adult reader who enjoys a great suspense/mystery and can handle a lot of foul language, some of it vulgar.
