Summary
Audiobook Review: Mountain Fugitive by Lynette Eason
Narrated by Sara Sheckells
Mountain Fugitive is another fast-paced romantic suspense from Lynette Eason and part of the Love Inspired Suspense line. If you've followed my reviews for any length of time, you know I'm a huge Lynette Eason fan, so I was excited to listen to this one.
The story begins when Dr. Katherine saves the life of U.S. Marshal Dominic O'Ryan, only to discover that he's searching for her younger brother. From there, the story quickly launches into a suspense-filled adventure with plenty of danger, betrayal, and unexpected twists.
Dominic was probably my favorite part of the book. He's honorable, dependable, and exactly the kind of hero I've come to expect from Eason's novels. I really enjoyed getting to know his character and appreciated that he was clearly one of the "good guys" from the start.
The mystery kept me engaged, and I found myself second-guessing several of the characters as the story unfolded. There were enough twists and betrayals to keep me invested in discovering the truth.
The romance, however, wasn't my favorite aspect of the story. Katherine and Dominic's attraction felt almost instantaneous, and for me, their relationship developed a little too quickly. I would have enjoyed seeing more time spent building their connection.
Since I listened to the audiobook, I should also mention the narration. While Sara Sheckells did a good job with the pacing and overall storytelling, some of the character voices didn't quite work for me personally. It wasn't enough to keep me from finishing the audiobook, and I would certainly be willing to listen to another book narrated by her before deciding whether it was simply this particular performance that didn't fully connect with me.
Overall, I enjoyed Mountain Fugitive, although it isn't one of my favorite Lynette Eason novels. I'm honestly not sure whether that's because the story itself didn't resonate with me quite as much or because the narration influenced my overall experience. Either way, if you're a fan of clean romantic suspense with plenty of action, this is still a solid addition to the Love Inspired Suspense line.
