When Katherine “Kit” FitzGilbert turned her back on London society more than a decade ago, she determined never to set foot in a ballroom again. But when business takes her to London and she’s forced to run for her life, she stumbles upon not only a glamorous ballroom but also Graham, Lord Wharton. What should have been a chance encounter becomes much more as Graham embarks on a search for his friend’s missing sister and is convinced Kit knows more about the girl than she’s telling.
After meeting Graham, Kit finds herself wishing things could have been different for the first time in her life, but what she wants can’t matter. Long ago, she dedicated herself to helping women escape the same scorn that drove her from London and raising the innocent children caught in the crossfire. And as much as she desperately wishes to tell Graham everything, revealing the truth isn’t worth putting him and everyone she loves in danger.

Book Title: A Defense of Honor
Book Author: Kristi Ann Hunter
What do you like about this book:
"He was being passed over for a bush?"
Lord Graham Wharton craves conversation with a woman who is more than just a pretty face in the midst of a room full of social elites, so after glimpsing a fair headed maiden clothed in a bright green dress slipping in and out of the greenery along the perimeter of the ballroom, his curiosity births "an unbidden and unfathomable desire to defend the unknown woman's honor". Was she in some sort of mortal danger or simply avoiding an annoying suitor? Ironically, the former Lady Katherine FitzGilbert was not, nor ever would be, a figment of his imagination, for there was much to more to the disappearing woman than a clandestine meeting behind a potted plant.
Kit has avoided her past for more than a decade, but after a meeting in London turns dangerous, she ducks inside a crowded ballroom in order to hide in plain sight . . . .except that she never gets the opportunity to remain hidden. The memory of her short, entertaining conversation with Lord Wharton and his subsequent assistance against a gangs of thugs, follows her home to Haven Manor where her precious "family" desperately needs to remain hidden, especially from a future earl. How in heaven's name did he find her? And why does her heart keep telling her that she never wants him to leave?
Graham knew that "there were secrets here (Haven Manor), inside every feminine head, but it was Kit who most fascinated him. He'd never worked so hard to get to know someone in his life". It was those secrets that could prove to be their downfall, unless faith was given a chance to claim victory over fear.
An outstanding novel by Kristi Hunter!
