Book Title: 61 Hours
Book Author: Lee Child
What do you like about this book:
Summery::
61 Hours is, no doubt, a well-crafted, fast-paced, page-turning thriller with many unforeseen twists and turns, which make for top-notch entertainment. But it still has many problems.
In their review for this novel, Associated Press acclaimed it, saying, "Like his hero Jack Reacher, Lee Child makes no wrong steps." Child does, in fact, make one--one which will alienate a fine portion of his readers. Its constant profanity is frequent and unavoidable, and its occasional, unnecessarily crude comments are cause for discomfort. But if you are willing to overlook that, then you're in for one heck of a read.
Sexual Content::
Some of the banter between Reacher and "Amanda" had a mild, sexual undertone and suggests that there might be something be some romance. Seeing how they only communicate by phone, Reacher tries to guess what she looks like, which brings a flare of sexual tension. She asks him if he thinks she's flat-chested, and he replies no, giving her a predicted measurement.
Joking, someone asks to spend a couple nights with a girl, making a comment about her rear. Plato is said to be involved in prostitution. A couple of coarse remarks concerning pornography.
Violent Content::
A bus wreck gives passengers many cuts, bruises and broken bones. Pictures of dead bodies. Hand-to-hand combat can get a little bloody. Several people are said to have been murdered and their bodies are observed, as are their wounds, which can get gruesome. Disloyal men are chained in the wild, given two choices. One: starve to death. Or two: use a hatchet to cut off their shin to get free. Thankfully, we never read about it happening. A man is said to have killed his wife. Plato threatens several times to kill men and women--especially relatives--in horrifically disturbing ways. Children are said to be dumped in the woods in clusters, and could have committed acts of violence, murder, and even cannibalism. There's a lot of talk of suicide and methods of suicide.
Language::
21 s-words; 23 uses of "a--"; 18 of "h-ll"; 16 uses of "d--n"; 4 of "p-ss": and 1 use of "p--sy." Jesus' name is misused three times and there are a couple of crude comments.
Drug/Alcohol Content::
The story revolves around meth dealers. How drugs users ingest meth is also described in many ways. People are said to take painkillers. Reacher and Peterson drink some beers.
Recommendation:: 2.5/5
PG-13 - Intense action violence including bloody descriptions, drug content, thematic material and some crude comments
