Against the Fire is part of The Raines of Wind Canyon series and features Gabe. Gabe is a delicious ex-marine alpha male. Gabe is dealing with an arsonist and there are many suspects to choose from. Mattie is a career driven hot redhead. She volunteers with the Family Recovery Center which is how she ends up crossing paths with Gabe. One of her clients is accused of the arson on Gabe’s property. She believes he is innocent. Gabe is able to recognize the sexy woman hiding behind the severe hairstyle and gray suits. When fate intervenes and they both end up at Club Rio, the chemistry is combustible. Gabe’s brother Devlin helps with the investigation which creates enough intrigue for us to read his book next. There is a secondary story line with Mattie’s friend Tracey and Gabe’s best friend Sam. I enjoyed their story and Sam’s resolve.
